Investment in women’s education vital for health awareness: Health Minister Sharma
Kathmandu, Dec 14: Minister for Health and Population Dr Sudha Sharma has emphasized the need to increase investment in women’s education, saying it is crucial for improving health awareness at the family, community and national levels.
Addressing a programme organized by Kanya Mandir Secondary School in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Sharma said educating women plays a key role in eliminating backwardness from society and strengthening overall development. She praised Kanya Mandir for its longstanding contribution to women’s literacy and empowerment, noting that the institution has produced thousands of graduates who have gone on to excel in fields such as medicine, administration, industry, engineering and education.
On the occasion, the minister also provided financial assistance of Rs 500,000 to several outstanding students of Grades 11 and 12.
Speaking at the programme, Management Committee Chair and Kathmandu Metropolitan City spokesperson Nawin Manandhar described Kanya Mandir as a prestigious educational institution known for producing high-achieving students. He said effective management has helped maintain high morale among teachers.
School Principal Ghanashyam Neupane said Kanya Mandir has become one of the most popular educational institutions in the Kathmandu Valley due to the collective efforts of the management committee, teachers, students and staff.
Located at Chhetrapati, Kathmandu-17, Kanya Mandir Secondary School currently has around 1,200 girl students enrolled.
