Government Prioritises Rights of Persons with Disabilities: PM Karki

Kathmandu, Dec 3: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive development and strengthening governance systems that uphold the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In her message on the 34th International Day of Persons with Disabilities, PM Karki expressed solidarity with ongoing national and global campaigns advocating for disability rights and leadership, noting that these efforts are essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She highlighted the government’s dedication to ensuring access to health, education, employment, social security and rehabilitation for PWDs. Creating an enabling environment for a dignified and equitable life—based on individuals’ socio-economic conditions and the degree of disability—remains a key state policy, she added.

The Prime Minister stressed that obstacles hindering PWDs’ access to physical infrastructure, governmental services and legal mechanisms will be gradually removed. She emphasised that coordinated efforts across all three tiers of government to expand employment opportunities and promote entrepreneurship among PWDs would yield meaningful progress.

PM Karki further stated that Nepal’s constitution and existing legal frameworks have already incorporated the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of persons with disabilities. She urged all stakeholders to continue robust advocacy to safeguard and advance these rights.
