Nepal’s participation in COP-30 effective: Minister Dr Pariyar
Kathmandu, Nov 18: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Madan Pariyar has said that Nepal’s engagement in the COP-30 climate summit has been productive and impactful.
Speaking at a virtual press briefing organized by the Ministry of Forest and Environment from Belem, Brazil, on Tuesday, Minister Pariyar—who is leading Nepal’s delegation to the global climate conference—said the country has been able to effectively present its key climate priorities despite having a smaller team this year.
“The delegation may be small, but we have been successful in strongly raising Nepal’s climate agenda,” he said. Addressing a ministerial session on Sunday, he urged developed nations to fulfill their long-standing commitments, particularly on climate finance.
Minister Pariyar stressed the importance of collective effort, including contributions from emerging economies, to keep the 1.5°C target within reach. He also highlighted the outcomes of the Sagarmatha Sambad held in Kathmandu and reiterated the need to integrate mountain-related concerns into the UNFCCC process.
Joint Secretary Dr. Maheshwor Dhakal, head of the Climate Change Management Division, briefed the media on Nepal’s various initiatives and engagements during the conference.
Nepal has been advocating for stronger measures on climate finance, Article 6 mechanisms of the Paris Agreement, the loss and damage fund, adaptation and mitigation efforts, technology transfer, and climate justice.
Minister Pariyar is scheduled to return to Nepal on Wednesday.
