NERC endorses NEA’s decision to raise tariff dues
Kathmandu, Nov 17: The Nepal Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has upheld the decision of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NRA) regarding the dispute on ‘Dedicated’ and Trunk Line’ power tariffs.
Hearing on the complaints of two industries, the NERC denied issuing an interim order by upholding NEA’s decision to raise the outstanding amount for utilizing the electricity. The Commission conducted a hearing on the complaints of Panchakanya Plastic Industries Pvt Ltd and Panchakanya Steel.
Both industries have long been showing reluctance to pay tariffs of electricity channelized through dedicated feeders and trunk lines from the NEA. Lately, the NEA has cut down the power supply to the industries on October 21 and 22 by giving a 21-day ultimatum.
The Commission has endorsed the NEA’s decision to cut down supply, citing legal provision of taking action when tariff dues are not settled within the stipulated time. However, there is an arrangement for the industrialists to go to court if not satisfied with the commission’s decision.
