FNJ disagrees with some provisions of Printing and Publication Regulations

Kathmandu, Nov 3: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed disagreement with certain provisions included in the Printing and Publication (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2082.

The FNJ issued a statement today expressing disagreement, stating that certain provisions of the regulations appear to be against a free press.

The FNJ stated that the Regulation contains some restrictive provisions such as imposing fees on those that have been receiving free registration and renewal, and monitoring and inspection also being done by local authorities, impractical provisions like requiring the publication of a notice in three national daily newspapers to cancel the certificate of registered online media, and discriminatory provisions where registered newspapers under the same act do not need to renew but online media must renew every year.

The umbrella organisation of journalists has also strongly urged the government to immediately rectify the provisions mentioned against the independent press.
