PM Karki holds consultations with NC general secretary duo on election

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has continued to hold consultations with leaders of various political parties regarding the elections. In this connection, she held discussions with Nepali Congress general secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma today.

During the consultation, Prime Minister Karki discussed the preparations made so far by the government and political parties, as well as the tasks to be carried out in the coming days regarding the election scheduled for coming March 5, said Adarsha Kumar Shrestha, the Prime Minister’s Chief Personal Secretary.

PM Karki on the occasion emphasized that the political parties should make a clear commitment for the elections. The two NC General Secretaries said, “Although a formal decision is yet to be made, the Nepali Congress is committed to participating in the elections. We will make an official decision on this soon. We also believe that the CPN (UML) too cannot avoid the elections to give a way out to the nation. It seems that the government will also need to make additional efforts to bring UML into agreement. We are also making efforts for this.”

They said that their party would soon engage in in-depth discussions with the Gen-Z youth and other parties on elections and other contemporary issues. The General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma expressed the view that intensive discussions should be held with all political parties, including the youth of Gen-Z, to agree in advance on how the demands of the youth movement can be addressed before the elections and what decisions the first session of the post-election parliament will make.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, PM Karki has also called UML leaders for discussions. Since the UML had its Secretariat meeting today, the UML leadership informed the Secretariat that the discussions could be held another day, Chief Personal Secretary to the Prime Minister Shrestha said.

Prime Minister Karki had previously consulted leaders of various parties at different stages. At the Prime Minister’s call, a tripartite dialogue between the government, political parties, and the Gen-Z youth groups had also taken place earlier.
