Final rites of Bipin Joshi performed at Mahakali Aryaghat in Kanchanpur
Kanchanpur: Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student from Kanchanpur who was killed while being held by Hamas, has been cremated at the Mahakali Aryaghat in Kanchanpur this morning.
The funeral procession began from his home in Mahendranagar at 8 a.m., and the final rites were performed by his relatives, including his father, Mahananda Joshi.
The Armed Police Force offered a salute during the cremation ceremony.
Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmuel Ari Bass, former Foreign Minister N.P. Saud, lawmakers, provincial ministers, local representatives, and thousands of citizens attended the funeral.
Joshi’s body was brought to Kathmandu yesterday afternoon via Fly Dubai flight. Prime Minister Sushila Karki, ministers, and senior government officials paid their final respects at Tribhuvan International Airport.
The Nepali Army later flew the body to Dhangadhi and handed it over to the family.
Bipin was among 10 Nepali students killed when Hamas attacked Israel on the 7th of October, 2023. He had been held hostage since then, and his death was confirmed on October 10 this year. Hamas handed over his body to Israel last Monday, which later repatriated it to Nepal.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli government has assured support and facilities to Bipin’s family.
