‘Intensity of Gen-Z protest was severe than expected’
Kathmandu: The Nepali Army (NA) has stated that the recent Gen-Z protest happened on September 8 and 9 was intense and massive in Nepal as compared to the trends seen in other countries.
At a news conference organized at the Army Headquarters on Friday, the NA stated that the security challenges of the Gen-Z protest were analyzed but the volume and intensity were severe than the estimation.
The Director General of NA’s Military Operations Department Pawan Jung Thapa said that the NA worked to maintain law and security on the basis of doctrine of necessity after conducting an objective analysis of the security situation in the immediate context of the sudden and massive Gen-Z protest.
He said that the NA worked in a balanced manner in order to maintain peace and stability with support and coordination from the judiciary, other security bodies and the government officials.
Likewise, Director of the NA’s Military Operations Department Manoj Thapa stated that the NA took required initiative in an objective way to maintain peace, and law and order situation in the then context.
He argued that the multidimensional efforts of the NA taken to normalize the situation should be understood and analyzed in an objective manner.
In response to a query on security situation and elections in the post Gen-Z protest, he expressed confidence that peace and security situation will be gradually improve though there were some security challenges in the adverse context.
Similarly, NA Spokesperson Rajaram Basnet said that the NA has worked for the nation’s sovereignty, indivisibility, independence and unity adding that its prideful history and identity is connected to traditions and cultures.
During the event, the NA officials shared about the contributions of the NA made to reduce the loss of human lives and property during the time of monsoon-induced disasters thanks to cooperation, support and coordination of all stakeholders.
