Disaster incidents since April 14 leave 285 dead, 27 missing

Kathmandu: A total of 285 people have lost their lives to different disaster incidents since April 14 to date.

As per the details as of now, another 27 have gone missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has stated.

NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that 44 people have so far lost their lives, and five went missing during the disaster incidents today alone.

It has been reported that the highest number of casualties occurred in Ilam, where 37 people died in landslides, and 50 districts have been affected, according to the latest data, she informed.

According to the Authority, the highest number of deaths (86) occurred due to snake bites alone since April 14.

Likewise, 46 people lost their lives to landslides and 45 to lightning strikes during the reporting period.

It is noted that 30 deaths were caused by floods, six by heavy rainfall, 23 by fires, eight by storms, 22 by animal attacks, and 19 by landslides.

Similarly, 23 people have gone missing in floods, three in landslides, and one due to an animal attack.

There have been a total of 4,065 disaster events, resulting in 1,072 injuries, spokesperson Mahat informed.

A total of 7,211 families have been affected by the disasters during the period, she added.
