International Women’s T20 Series: Nepal defeated by Malaysia

Kathmandu: Nepal was defeated by Malaysia by three runs in the first match of the International Women’s Twenty20 series.

Chasing a target of 105 runs in today’s match held at the Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur, Nepal could only score 101 runs in 20 overs while losing five wickets. For Nepal, Pooja Mahato scored the highest 30 runs off 29 balls while Samjhana Khadka added 18 runs off 16 balls.

Kabita Joshi scored 13 runs. Nur Daniyal took the most wickets, three, for Malaysia. Earlier, having won the toss and chosen to bat first, Malaysia made 104 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Captain Winifred Durrasingham scored the highest 27 runs for Malaysia while opener Aina Hamiza Hasimah made 26 runs and Mas Aisa scored 25 runs. Suman Bista took two wickets and Rubina Khatri took one wicket for Nepal.

The Nepali women’s team will play in the Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier to be held in Nepal next January. Nepal played the ongoing tournament as part of preparations for that competition.
