Ministers discuss ways to control cholera outbreak in Birgunj

Kathmandu: Minister for Drinking Water and Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel discussed the issues of control and prevention of the cholera outbreak in Birgunj city.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday, the minister duo discussed the issues of cholera outbreak in Birgunj agreeing to ensure availability of cholera kit in affected Birgunj city, provide immediate treatment facilities to the infected ones based on their symptoms, make arrangements for free checkup in the private hospitals and mobilize sufficient human resources, according to Joint Secretary at the Drinking Water Ministry Kamalraj Shrestha.

Likewise, the two leaders agreed to take steps by ensuring coordination of all three layers of government, Shrestha added. ‘We are fully active in controlling cholera. Cooperation of all stakeholders, civil society and local community is inevitable for this,’ according to Joint Secretary Shrestha.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Central Security Committee also decided to mobilize a team of medical practitioners in the cholera-hit Bijgunj city.
