Rains alleviate drought-hit Madhes
Kathmandu, Aug 3: To a much relief of the drought-hit Madhes province, the rainfall occurred well in the last 24 hours.
The farmers welcomed the rains, cultivated the land, and transplanted paddy seedlings on Sunday. Although the eastern belt of the country received adequate rainfall, the Tarai region experienced light to moderate rainfall over the last 24 hours, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The department added that the eastern Tarai was able to conduct paddy plantation due to the adequate rains.
Meteorologist at Weather Forecasting Division, Binu Maharjan, informed that the Tarai region had the rainfall because the low-pressure belt of monsoon was on the northern side of its average range, towards Nepal. However, there is cloudy weather across the country, and rainfall was partial.
The Anarmani Birta Station of Jhapa district recorded the rainfall at 151.6 ML in the last 24 hours. Some places in most of the provinces saw heavy rainfall during the day on Sunday.
