Legislative committee discusses national forensic laboratory bill
July 30, Kathmandu: The Legislation Management Committee of the National Assembly held a clause-by-clause discussion on the National Forensic Laboratory Bill during a meeting at Singha Durbar today.
Lawmakers Dr. Beduram Bhusal, Gopal Bhattarai, Suresh Kumar Alemagar, Dr. Anjan Shakya, and others emphasised the need to amend the bill to ensure the appointment of an impartial, independent, and expert individual as the executive director of the forensic laboratory.
They also stressed that the executive director’s service benefits should be clearly outlined in the bill and that the appointee should possess high ethical standards and have no criminal convictions.
Education, Science, and Technology Minister Raghu Pant stated that the government introduced the bill to address the need for updated laws to conduct scientific examinations of any living or non-living entities and chemical substances for justice delivery.
Committee Chairperson Tulsa Kumari Dahal noted that the proposed law, aimed at establishing legal provisions for more scientific and reliable justice delivery, would undergo detailed discussions.
