International Tiger Day being observed today

The International Tiger Day is being observed across the globe today.

Every year the International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29.

The day is celebrated every year to raise awareness about tiger conservation and the urgent threats they face, such as habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict, and inspiring collective action.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF),  approximately 100,000 tigers roamed the wild a century ago, while current estimates suggest there are only about 4,000 remaining today, and this number is decreasing.

International Tiger Day was first celebrated in 2010 after it was found that 97% of all wild tigers had disappeared in the last century.
