2nd Chinese teachers’ competition concludes at Kathmandu University

July 25, Kathmandu: The 2nd Nepalese Local Chinese Teachers’ Teaching Skills Competition, hosted by the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) and co-organised by the Nepal Chinese Language Education Society, concluded at CIKU.

Over 50 participants, including CIKU faculty, Professor Li Shuangcheng (CIKU Chinese Director), and representatives from Tribhuvan University and the LRI Confucius Classroom, attended the program.

Professor Li, welcoming guests, acknowledged the contributions of Chinese and local teachers to CIKU’s success. He emphasised the importance of local teacher training, as they form the majority of CIKU’s staff, and noted the competition’s aim to enhance teaching skills and professional exchange.

Six local Chinese language teachers reached the finals after preliminary rounds. Judged on instructional design, classroom communication, teaching methods, and demeanor, finalists used multimedia tools and interactive strategies to engage students effectively.

Pranaya Chitrakar from CIKU won first place for his seamless class transitions, engaging language, strong teacher-student interaction, and varied teaching tools.

Mahendra Dhakal (CIKU) and Elisha Joshi (LRI Confucius Classroom) took second place, with the other three finalists receiving third prizes.

The competition provided a platform for local teachers to refine their skills and supported the localisation of Chinese language education in Nepal. CIKU plans to collaborate with other institutions to host similar events to advance Chinese language teaching.
