Police issue circular not to publish photos/videos of arrestees
Kathmandu: The Nepal Police headquarters has issued a circular to all police offices across the country not to publish photos and videos of individuals arrested in any incident or crime.
The police headquarters has instructed its subordinate units not to bring photos and videos of arrestees to the public domain, either through press conferences or disclosure of information about the arrestees, said Nepal Police spokesperson, DIG Binod Ghimire.
The Office of the Attorney General has issued a circular to all subordinate units based on the directive given to the police headquarters, prohibiting publication of pictures and videos, Ghimire said.
He further informed that if there is a situation where not publishing the photos and videos about any incidents of heinous crimes would have an impact on the state and society, it can be made public with the permission of the concerned authorities.
