PM vows to develop Karnali corridor as a trade route with China, India

Humla: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the Karnali corridor will be developed as a trade route with China and India.

The PM said that Karnali corridor is not only important for Karnali and Humla residents but also serve as a trade route with two neighbouring countries.

Oli added that the road will be upgraded to a two-lane blacktop road. Inaugurating a bailey-bridge constructed over the Chuwakhola (river) of Kharpunath Rural Municipality in Humla district on Sunday, the PM mentioned that a motorable bridge will soon be constructed over Chuwakhola along the Karnali corridor.

The bailey-bridge there now connects the Humla district headquarters to the Karnali corridor after 26 years of the beginning of the road network.

On the occasion, PM Oli expressed happiness for Humla district headquarters Simkot’s linkage to the national road network.

Stating that the bailey-bridge was constructed to connect Humla to the national road network and take it upto the tri-junction point, PM Oli pledged to lead the nation towards prosperity by completing the construction of a motorable bridge there.The PM said that the road will be upgraded even by applying different measures amid hardships.

Likewise, the PM promised to establish quarantine point at Hilsa, the border point of Nepal and China, stating that there is an immense potential for trade and business.

Also to do business with a neighbouring country, a quarantine office should be immediately established, the PM stated. The bailey-bridge was fixed by the Nepali Army in a three month. PM Oli reached Kharpunath from Kathmandu by a helicopter of Nepali Army.

The PM was warmly welcomed by the local people upon his visit there. Present on the occasion were Defence Minister Manbir Rai, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal, Chief of Karnali Province Yagyaraj Joshi, Chief Minister of Karnali Province Yamlal Kandel, Chief of Army Staff Ashokraj Sigdel and other officials.
