Flights at Suketar Airport disrupted for past two weeks
Phungling (Taplejung), June 28: The Suketar Airport of Taplejung district has not been in operation for the past two weeks.
Not a single flight has resumed from this airport since June 13. The Nepal Airline Corporation had resumed flights at the airport from the second week of this April after four months. Station In-charge of NAC, Taplejung, Narayan Kumar Karki, said four flights were canceled since June 15 due to low visibility and fog following the start of the monsoon season.
Passengers have been facing problems after Kathmandu-Taplejung flights operated on Monday and Friday weekly continued to be canceled. Karki shared, “Adverse weather is one of the reasons behind the non-operation of the flights. They are compelled to stop the flights due to safety reasons.”
The number of air passengers has started decreasing due to a lack of regular flights, and they have been compelled to travel a long distance by road. The locals have been demanding an alternative to air service as well as a trustworthy transport service after the problem of flight disruption repeatedly recurred during the rainy season.
