PM Oli to embark an official visit to Spain
Kathmandu, June 26: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to depart for Spain this coming Saturday on an official visit, leading a Nepali delegation. During the visit, he is scheduled to attend the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development from June 30 to July 3. According to Shanil Nepal, Ambassador of Nepal to Spain, all preparations for the visit have been finalised. He added that the Nepali community in Spain is enthusiastic and eager to welcome the Prime Minister.
During his visit, PM Oli will engage in bilateral meetings with his Spanish counterparts, and Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation will be signed. Additionally, the Prime Minister will interact with the Nepali community and Spanish business leaders. The Embassy has also indicated that other significant bilateral meetings will take place on the sidelines of the conference.
Spain, a western European nation, operates as a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. It spans approximately 505,990 square kilometres and has a population of around 47 million. Spain became a member of the European Union in 1986 and joined the Schengen area in 1995.
Nepal-Spain diplomatic ties were established on May 13, 1968. Nepal opened its residential Embassy in Spain in 2018, while Spain manages its diplomatic relations with Nepal through its Embassy in Delhi. Former Prime Minister Pushpaal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ took part in a high-level discussion on trafficking in 2016, and in 2019, former Minister for Communications Gokul Baskota attended a ministerial GSM event in Spain.
