Nepal prioritizes safety and repatriation of citizens in Israel and Iran: Foreign Minister
June 23, Kathmandu: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is focusing on ensuring the safety and potential repatriation of Nepali citizens in Israel and Iran amid escalating tensions in the region.
Speaking during today s session of the House of Representatives while responding to queries raised under the Appropriation Bill (2025/26), Minister Dr Rana emphasised that the ministry is treating the conflict between Israel and Iran with utmost seriousness, prioritising the security of Nepali citizens in these countries.
She noted that since the onset of hostilities, the Ministry has been closely monitoring the situation. In Iran, a group of Nepali citizens have been rescued with the assistance of the Indian Embassy in Tehran, following a request to the Indian government. In Israel, the Ministry is collecting real-time data on Nepali citizens through an online portal to assess their status and needs.
The Minister explained that Nepali citizens in Israel are registering on the portal, which provides details on their locations and numbers. While only a few have expressed a desire to return home, preparations for their repatriation have begun for those facing difficulties or wishing to leave.
Addressing the case of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, abducted in Israel on October 7, 2023, Dr Rana said the government is making every diplomatic effort to secure his release, though his current status remains unknown.
During the session, Dr. Rana also responded to parliamentary questions on various issues, including Nepal’s territorial integrity, economic diplomacy, the role of non-resident Nepalis, capacity building within the ministry, ambassadorial appointments, consular services, foreign policy, international relations, and national security.
