PM Oli calls for integrating yoga into daily life for health and harmony

Lalitpur: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged the public to adopt yoga as part of their daily routine, calling it a scientific and holistic discipline essential to human well-being.

Addressing the 11th International Day of Yoga 2025 organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Lalitpur, Prime Minister Oli highlighted yoga as Nepal’s contribution to global welfare, peace, and the vision of a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepalis. This year’s event was held under the theme “Yoga for the Entire Earth and Human Health.”

“Yoga is one of the eight limbs of spiritual practice and requires discipline. Unfortunately, discipline is lacking in Nepali society today. There can be no meditation without discipline, and yoga without wisdom is incomplete,” said Prime Minister Oli. “It’s not just about building muscles at the gym—yoga emphasizes mental, physical, and emotional balance.”

He stressed the need for a balanced lifestyle incorporating proper diet, rest, and yoga. “We must focus on consuming pesticide-free food for true health. While doctors and hospitals are essential, we should work toward preventing illness rather than just treating it. That’s what a healthy Nepal truly means.”

PM Oli reiterated his earlier slogan, “Healthy Nepal,” saying it reflects a vision of disease prevention and holistic wellness. He added that health should go hand-in-hand with values like non-violence, truth, discipline, and happiness.

“The world needs peace, not violence. If those who are armed and arrogant understood this, peace would prevail. I work with sincerity and serve the country when given the opportunity. Even when I’m not in office, I maintain a pure intention,” he said.

Highlighting that yoga can be practiced at home, he advised people to keep their thoughts and actions pure. “Yoga is not about denying human or societal needs. We must live within societal norms and values. A healthy body leads to a happy heart—and for that, yoga is essential.”

He concluded by emphasizing that instead of living carelessly and blaming external forces for poor health, people should embrace yoga and meditation as a path to a happier and healthier life.
