Speaker Ghimire stresses on reviewing electoral systems

Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has spoken of the need to critically review the existing electoral systems so as to address challenges towards making governance more effective and pro-citizen.

While unveiling a book entitled ” Electoral Systems: A Comparative Study” authored by constitutional expert and senior advocate Dr Chandrakanta Gyawali here on Saturday, he called for broader discussions on the issues and challenges of governance and electoral systems.

“Either it is the fault of the existing electoral systems, or the issues related to the electoral code of conduct, or is it the problem of the political parties using it?” he questioned, underlining the need to review electoral processes and the systems.

It is necessary to explore potential ways for ensuring that each election is conducted in a fair and transparent atmosphere with the appropriate participation of all, and for enabling an environment where elected representatives can perform in a stable and result-oriented manner, he added.

The book is published by the Pairavi Book House.
