Dengue cases surge with rising temperatures and onset of monsoon
June 11, Kathmandu: Dengue infections are rising alongside increasing temperatures. The Ministry of Health and Population’s Epidemiology and Disease Control Division reports 1281 confirmed cases this year until Tuesday.
Director Dr. Chandrabhal Jha states dengue has spread to 72 districts, with Kathmandu reporting the highest cases at 136. Manang, Rasuwa, Dolpa, Humla and Mahottari remain unaffected.
Bagmati Province leads with 343 cases, followed by Koshi Province with 246 cases, Gandaki Province with 234 cases, Lumbini Province with 207 cases, Sudurpaschim Province with 174 cases, Karnali Province with 62 cases, and Madhesh Province with 17 cases.
Despite Madhesh’s heat, fewer cases are reported, possibly due to underreporting. Last year saw higher infections, but vigilance is urged until November. The government has allocated eight crore rupees for dengue control. Dr. Jha highlights ongoing awareness campaigns on larva destruction and surveillance.
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki emphasises household cleanliness to eliminate mosquito breeding sites like clean water containers, tyres and flowerpots.
