Chinese Ambassador awards scholarships in Jhapa, links China’s growth to education

June 11, Kathmandu: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, distributed scholarships to 40 students from four schools and provided educational materials, bags, and sports equipment to 1,000 students in Jhapa.

The Chinese Ambassador awarded scholarships of Rs. 10,000 each to 10 students from each of the following schools: Shukraraj Basic School (Birtamod Municipality-8), Durga Secondary School (Birtamod-9), Devkota Basic School, and Shanischare Secondary School (Arjundhara Municipality-6). The scholarships were distributed during programs held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, 600 students from Shanischare Secondary School and 400 from Durga Secondary School received 19 types of educational materials.

Ambassador Chen also inaugurated a four-room, two-story building at Shukraraj Basic School, constructed with Rs. 5 million support from the Chinese Embassy. He laid the foundation stone for a new building at Devkota Basic School, also funded by the embassy.

Speaking at the event, Chen highlighted that China’s development is rooted in education and expressed a commitment to continued collaboration in this sector. He recalled the strong Nepal-China relationship, noting that the Chinese government supported the construction of 10 school buildings across Nepal after the 2015 earthquake.

Birtamod Municipality Mayor Pabitra Mahatara Prasai thanked the Chinese Embassy for its contributions to Jhapa’s development in infrastructure, agriculture, and education.

Ambassador Chen also pledged financial support for trial projects at two fish farms in Birtamod and two cattle farms in Arjundhara. He visited local industries producing bamboo, straw, and betel leaf products in Birtamod and Arjundhara, committing to support their market expansion in China.
