Laos defeats Nepal 2-0
Kathmandu: Laos defeated Nepal 2-1 in the match held today under the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. Hosts Laos won by 2-1 in the match held at the New Laos National Stadium.
This is the first time that Nepal has lost to Laos in a football match. Damoth Thongkhamsavath and Peter Phanthavong scored one goal each in Laos’ victory in the 13th and 49th minutes of the match.
Nepal’s Manish Dangi converted a penalty after winning a foul inside the Laos d-box in the 73rd minute of the match to make it 2-1.
However, Nepal could not score any further and thus lost to the home team. Earlier, Nepal had lost 0-2 to Malaysia in the first match. Nepal is together with Laos, Malaysia and Vietnam in Group F. The group winner will book a place in the 19th Asian Cup football tournament to be held in Saudi Arabia in 2027.
Nepal will now play its third match against Vietnam in October.
The playing 11 for Nepal, captained by Kiran Chemjong, included Bimal Pandey, Anant Tamang, Suman Shrestha, Yogesh Gurung, Anjan Bista, Rohit Chand, Erik Bista, Ayush Ghalan, Manish Dangi and Laken Limbu. Matt Ross is the head coach of the Nepali national football team.
