Finance Ministry begins preparations for next fiscal year’s budget implementation
June 5, Kathmandu: The Finance Ministry has started groundwork for the implementation of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. During a meeting held at the ministry on Thursday, discussions focused on aligning policies, programs, budgets and milestones to create an action plan for effective execution.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel directed officials to advance procurement preparations for programs and projects outlined in the budget statement. He emphasised that preparing for agreements immediately after budget approval would facilitate faster implementation.
Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal noted that no additional laws are needed to proceed with procurement, suggesting that preparations should move forward as outlined in the budget. The meeting also addressed the need to prioritise increasing capital expenditure for the current fiscal year.
Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyaya stated that the ministry would promptly facilitate fund transfers and other processes for projects and programs with secured resources and complete documentation. He added that if necessary, work would continue on holidays and Saturdays to ensure smooth progress. He also urged secretaries of relevant ministries to send only fully prepared and feasible tasks to the Finance Ministry.
Secretaries from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and the Ministry of Water Supply, among others, were present at the meeting.
