Safe shelters protect livestock from wildlife in Banke
May 31, Kathmandu: To curb losses from leopards, tigers, and other wildlife, 191 secure livestock shelters have been built in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality and Kamdi Biological Corridor near Banke National Park.
These shelters have enabled locals to resume and expand livestock farming without fear, boosting income.
The Division Forest Office, supported by WWF’s Integrated Landscape Management Project, constructed shelters for 60 households and installed four kilometres of wire fencing to protect crops from wild boars and deer.
The initiative also includes habitat improvement, water source development, and conservation education to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
