US Ambassador in Mustang
Mustang: US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson has arrived here to observe and promote the cultural heritage of the region.
The US Embassy in Nepal has stated that Ambassador Thompson visited Mustang intending to strengthen the partnership between Nepal and the US and contribute to sustainable tourism, economic growth and cultural continuity.
The team, including Ambassador Thompson, will visit the cultural heritage sites that have been restored with the support of the US government’s Ambassadors’ Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). He will discuss and interact with the local community and project teams during the visit.
During the on-site observation of the heritage sites restored through AFCP, Ambassador Thompson is scheduled to observe the Tiji festival starting on Saturday in Upper Mustang. Today, he inspected the monastery in Jhong of Waragung Mukti Kshetra-2, renovated with the support of AFCP.
Assistance has been received in three projects through the AFCP in Mustang. Ambassador Thompson will also visit the Gonpa Gang monastery, Loghekar monastery (Ghar monastery), and Jampa Lhakhang monastery, Thupchen monastery, and Chode monastery in Lomanthang, according to the US Embassy.
