7.65 kg gold seized from Rasuwagadhi Checkpoint

 

Rasuwa, May 18: A team of Nepal Police has seized the gold that was smuggled into Nepal from China through the Rasuwagadhi Checkpoint on Sunday.

According to Hem Bahadur Shahi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office (DPO), Rasuwa, a total of 7.65 kg of gold was confiscated from a truck (Ba 4 Kha 6201) reportedly carrying apples. The current market value of the seized yellow metal is estimated to be over Rs 111 million.

Police have detained truck driver Kishore Bhujel, 24, of Syafrubeshi in Gosaikunda rural municipality-5 from Rasuwa district for further investigation. Arrested Bhujel is reported to have migrated to Rasuwa from elsewhere, it was shared.

Police have taken forward the process to hand over Bhujel to the Rasuwa Customs Office at Timure for further legal proceedings, informed DSP Shahi. Security agencies in the district have impounded altogether 65.69 kg of gold from this checkpoint since December 2015 and handed over the seized gold to the concerned authority for further action, according to the DPO, Rasuwa.
