Sagarmatha Sambaad concludes with adoption of “Sagarmatha Call for Action 2025” declaration

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Rana stresses urgent global action to address challenges facing mountain countries

Kathmandu: The inaugural Sagarmatha Sambaad has concluded today in Kathmandu with the adoption of the 25-point “Sagarmatha Call for Action 2025” declaration emphasizing urgent collective efforts to address the climate crisis.

In her closing remarks, Foreign Affaris Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba highlighted the critical role of mountains in the climate system, stating, “The mountains are at the forefront of climate change impacts and vulnerabilities.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Rana also noted that the Sagarmatha Sambaad had emerged as a platform advocating for climate justice, particularly for vulnerable countries bearing the brunt of climate change impacts.

She stressed the need for urgent global action to address the issues facing the mountain countries.

The Foreign Affairs Minister also called for these issues to be raised in all global and regional forums to sensitize the international community to the challenges faced by mountain communities.

Likewise, Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal elaborated on the Sagarmatha Call for Action 2025, highlighting the impact of climate change on the mountain communities.

The Kathmandu Declaration, resulting from the Sagarmatha Sambaad, calls for enhanced global cooperation to accelerate climate action, with a focus on preserving mountain ecosystems and ensuring the resilience of communities dependent on them.

The Sagarmatha Sambaad has positioned Nepal as a pivotal voice in global climate discussions, advocating for the protection of mountain environments and the communities that rely on them.

The three-day forum, themed “Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity,” brought together over 350 participants from Nepal and abroad to discuss pressing climate issues affecting mountainous regions.
