Israel celebrates 77th Independence Day, marks 65 years of Nepal-Israel ties
May 16, Kathmandu: The Embassy of Israel in Nepal hosted a grand reception on Thursday to celebrate Israel’s 77th Independence Day and 65 years of diplomatic relations with Nepal. Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav graced the event as chief guest, joined by government officials, diplomats, business people, journalists and people of different walks of life.
Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass highlighted Israel’s journey of resilience, innovation, and unity, emphasising the strong bonds with Nepal since June 1, 1960. “Our strength lies in our people’s spirit. Together with Nepal, we aim for a better future,” he said. The Ambassador informed about cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, education, health, and more, with over 4,000 Nepalis trained in Israel’s agricultural programs, especially the “Learn and Earn”.
The celebration was bittersweet, with a solemn tribute to victims of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Videos featured survivors, including Nepali Dhan Bahadur Chaudhary and Israeli Noa Beer, while a heartfelt plea for the release of Nepali hostage Bipin Joshi made the attendees emotional.
Cultural performances by Himali Boarding School students, dressed in Israeli and Nepali attire, added vibrancy. Guests enjoyed Israeli and Nepali cuisine and an Israel-themed photo booth. A video showcased Israel’s 2,000-year journey of hope and resilience.
