US President’s visit to Saudi Arabia: New opportunities for migrant workers in the Gulf
May 15, Kathmandu: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, held a press conference on Wednesday following the visit of U.S. President Donald J. Trump to the Kingdom.
The visit highlights the strong partnership between the two nations, which could bring new opportunities for migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is a major destination for Nepali migrant workers
Prince Faisal noted that the U.S. and Saudi Arabia signed economic deals worth $600 billion, with over $300 billion agreements in sectors like technology and infrastructure. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy, potentially creating more jobs for workers in the Gulf. Many workers currently contribute to the region, and remittances from the Gulf are a major source of economic support for families in countries like Nepal.
The leaders also discussed global issues, including ending the war in Gaza and lifting sanctions on Syria to help its people rebuild. They addressed stability in Yemen, Lebanon, and Sudan, which could impact roles in UN peacekeeping missions worldwide.
