Nepal geared up for inaugural Sagarmatha Sambad: Foreign Minister Dr Rana

May 10, Kathmandu: Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has announced that Nepal is finalising preparations for the inaugural Sagarmatha Sambad, Mt Everest Dialogue, scheduled for May 16–18 in Kathmandu.

During a meeting of the Sagarmatha Sambad Management Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she noted that Nepal was hosting such an international summit for the first time and had decided to hold it annually as a permanent diplomatic forum.

She said the event, centred on climate change, the Himalayas, and humanity’s future, would enhance Nepal’s global presence.

Minister Dr Rana pointed out that Nepal’s Himalayan glaciers were melting rapidly, leading to significant losses, and stated that the summit would strengthen Nepal’s advocacy for climate justice worldwide.

The Dialogue aims to bring together affected communities, scientists, policymakers, and leaders, with high-level international participation already secured. Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi and Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai provided updates on preparations. About two dozen countries and over 50 organisations have confirmed participation.
