HoR Session: Lawmakers draw government’s attention on contemporary issues

May 6, Kathmandu: Lawmakers have drawn the government’s attention to contemporary issues. During an emergency hour in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Ranjita Shrestha demanded the government carry out an impartial investigation into the arrest of Resham Chaudhary, the leader of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, on April 30.

Similarly, Kantika Sejuwal drew government’s attention to rescue Dipraj Bhandari, 26, of Sumli village in Chhayanath municipality-14 of Mugu district, who is stranded in the United Arab Emirates for the past three months.

He has been there for the past year in the course of overseas employment. Likewise, Thakur Prasad Gaire asked the government to complete the construction of federal parliament building, which is under construction in Singha Durbar premises.

Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar drew the government’s attention towards the fact that the budget allocated for district headquarters is not spent, while Manish Jha demanded that the government increase women’s participation in the cabinet.

Likewise, Nepali Congress lawmaker Dhanaraj Gurung has demanded the formation of a high-level committee to probe the property details of leaders and employees who assumed post since 2046 BS (1990).

He said while putting his opinions on the government’s fresh policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2082-83 BS (2025-26) today. As he said, the investigation of the properties owned by political leaders and employees through a powerful body will help prevent corruption and establish good governance.

Gurung further stressed that if the source of any property becomes unknown, such property should be seized.

Welcoming the government’s policies and programmes that had been presented by President Ramchandra Paudel before the joint sitting of the Federal Parliament on May 2, the lawmaker from the ruling party said the document could be amended on the basis of consensus.

He also pressed the need to form an all-party committee to begin the constitution amendment procedures, calling on political parties to have a consensus for the development of the nation, by keeping their political ideologies aside.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Urmila Aryal has said the government’s new policies and programmes are not capable of meeting the people’s expectations. Airing her views on the policies and programmes in a meeting of the National Assembly (NA) today, she accused the government of withdrawing good initiatives from the document, failing to encourage the citizens.

He demanded the government incorporate the projects of national pride, policies of the commercial use of cannabis, of connecting foreign migrant-returnees to entrepreneurship and addressing the issues of landless people. As she stressed, the policies and programmes should present a clear frame for building the self-suffice economy, focusing on the economic prosperity of all provinces.
