Four traffic cops arrested for beating up civilians

Kathmandu: Four traffic police personnel have been arrested for allegedly beating up a civilian.

Spokesperson of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Superintendent of Traffic Police Deepak Giri said that they have been removed from the responsibility of the traffic police circle public service after a video of them beating a civilian was received through social media.

“We initiated a search after the video surfaced on various media outlets and social sites, then four traffic police personnel found involved in the act have been removed from their duties, and a necessary investigation is underway,” he said.

“The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office’s serious attention has been drawn to the video of a man being beaten and abused by the traffic police on social media and various media outlets on April 24,” said a statement issued by SP Giri.

The preliminary investigation shows that the incident had taken place under the overhead bride at Sundhara, Kathmandu. Further investigation is underway.
