Prime Minister urges teachers to immediately return to schools by engaging in dialogue
Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged teachers to immediately sit for dialogue and return to schools, stating that the government will address demands that are feasible and within the country’s financial capacity.
Inaugurating the 11th National Convention of the Nepal Progressive Professors’ Association in Kirtipur on Monday, Prime Minister Oli said the current government is democratic, not repressive, and will address legitimate demands in the professional sector while safeguarding trade union rights.
‘The School Education Bill is currently under consideration in the parliamentary committee. There’s no need for teachers to take to the streets just for the sake of introducing the Act. The enrollment campaign has already started. Please go and enrol students. Please check the answer sheets of the SEE exam. Don’t be disheartened by my statement that 52 percent of students failed the SEE. Focus on ensuring quality education,’ said Prime Minister Oli.
PM Oli said, ‘The teachers’ protest is hurting students and parents, and bringing no benefit to the teachers themselves. Therefore, immediately engage in dialogue and end the protest. This is not the right time to protest, especially when regressive elements are becoming active.’
Prime Minister Oli, who is also the Chairperson of CPN (UML), said that professors should show intellectual activism against regressive, ultra-leftist, distorted, and anarchic tendencies.
