Temal Jatra of Tamang community starts today

April 11, Kathmandu: The Tamang community is celebrating Temal Jatra on the occasion of Chaitra Purnima (full moon day) starting on Friday.

Observed annually for two days, during the festival, Tamang people from various regions gather at Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu to light butter lamps in memory of their departed loved ones, praying for the peace of their souls.

Likewise, on the second day of the festival, people of the Tamang community light butter lamps at the Swyambhunath stupa.

Both Boudhanath Stupa and Swyambhunath Stupa are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
