Gabion walls construction ongoing to control inundation
Myagdi, April 7: Eight projects worth Rs 215.4 million are being implemented in the current fiscal year 2081/082 BS in the districts of Gandaki Province under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.
The projects are implemented to control river inundation and for the protection of human settlements on the banks of the Myagdi and Kaligandaki rivers. Officials shared that the Ministry’s Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office, Kaski, is implementing the projects, while some others are in the process of contract bidding.
Project Chief Bidur Shrestha stated that gabion walls were constructed to protect settlements from the Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers in Beni, Singja, Tatopani, Kushma Municipality and Jaljala Rural Municipality in Myagdi and Parbat districts.
Project Engineer Narjung Gurung said that a gabion wall is being developed on the bank of the Myagdi River at Tatopani in Beni Municipality-4, and the next one at Darbar in Malika Rural Municipality-6. Likewise, the gabion walls are being constructed at Singha and Surkemlea in Beni-4.
The Project is working to reduce the impacts of river inundation in Beni and its surroundings.
