Leader Koirala insists implementation of commitments made during formation of incumbent govt
Kathmandu, April 6: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has emphasized implementation of the agreements inked between the two ruling parties (NC and CPN UML) on the issues including constitution amendment and others while forming the incumbent government.
Unveiling the book ‘Katro ma Khalti’ (literally translated as pocket in the coffin) penned by Suman Karmacharya here on Sunday, leader Dr Koirala called for attention towards revitalizing country’s frail economic condition while enforcing the agreement.
Koirala, expressing his displeasure, said, “Nine months have elapsed since the announcement by the incumbent government to promote good-governance and reduce corruption along with amending the constitution on consensus, it has not been translated into action and the ruling alliance has not justified its relevance too.
For this, he opined leaders and leadership should have a strong willpower and thereafter, he viewed, the nation-building will be carried out through service to the people.
Underscoring development and promotion of green energy, agriculture and technology along with ending impunity to promote good-governance and corruption, the leader pointed out the need to select meritorious candidates in the law enforcement mechanism rather than appointing people on one’s interest.
On a different note, he cited the recent incident of smearing the statue of democratic people’s leader BP Koirala with black paint at the in Nepalgunj and admitted that the incident had impacted the minds of NC cadres and leaders to some extent.
“But,” he asserted, “The believers of democracy will not be deterred by the very incident.” He argued, “BP (Koirala) will not turn black by smearing black paint on his statue. Not only Nepali Congress, all Nepalis have considered him as a statesman.”
According to him, the incident has certainly impacted the minds of the party cadres and leaders. “It is natural,” he remarked, adding that those believing in democracy will not be deterred by the incident.”
Similarly, author Dr Karmacharya shared that the medical practices, the politics in the health care service, the hardships facing people to access health care services and the hassles in the medical field provided him impetus to write this book.
“Not only Nepal’s politics, reforms are required in social and health care sectors too,” he added.
Critic Pramod Pradhan stated that the book has exposed social follies adding that the writer has unmasked the social ills and wrong practices.
Writers Bimal Vaukaji and Baghirathi Shrestha praised the writer’s efforts for social transformation through writing despite his professional engagement in the medical field.
Other speakers at the event mentioned that the book has reflected the current state of good governance, political practices, youth and employment, education, health care and contemporary issues, and the operation of Nepali institutions.
