U.S. State of Texas declares March 13 as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’

March 15, Kathmandu: The legislature of the U.S. state of Texas has officially designated March 13 as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ following a resolution passed on March 13.

Introduced by Suleman Lalani, one of the state’s first Muslim and South Asian lawmakers, the resolution recognizes Lumbini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and key Buddhist spiritual destination, for its historical importance. The announcement coincided with a U.S. visit by mayors from Nepal’s Lumbini Circuit, welcomed by the 89th Texas legislature to promote the region.

Spearheaded by Netra Pandey of the Non-Resident Nepal Association and civic leader Prabhat Dixit, the day will be celebrated annually by the Nepali community in Texas to support Nepal’s tourism efforts.
