11th Nepal Geological Congress kicks off

Kathmandu, March 10: The 11th Nepal Geological Congress, organized by the Nepal Geological Society, kicked off in Kathmandu today. President Ramchandra Paudel inaugurated the two-day event.

The congress will feature discussions among geologists from various countries on global geological issues, including earth’s safety.

The event aims to highlight the role of geology in climate change adaptation, natural resource management, and geo-risk mitigation. It also serves as a platform for exchanging research, technologies, and experiences in the field of geology.

Society Chairperson Churna Bahadur Wali stated that the congress would facilitate knowledge-sharing on climate change impacts, resource management, and disaster response.

“The adverse impacts of climate change are increasing. There will be collaboration to identify challenges and implement climate adaptation and mitigation programs,” he added.

Geologists from Nepal, India, China, the USA, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, South Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan are participating in the congress.

More than 100 research papers on the geology of the Himalayan region will be presented, followed by extensive discussions on geological studies and research, said Congress Coordinator Professor Khum Narayan Poudel.

The Nepal Geological Congress is held every two years.
