National Assembly: Government’s attention drawn to various contemporary issues
Kathmandu, March 9: In a meeting of the National Assembly today, lawmakers drew the government’s attention to various contemporary issues, ranging from the ongoing demonstrations by monarchists to discrimination against Dalits and aviation safety.
During the zero hour of the session, Uday Bahadur Bohora expressed his concern over the ongoing public demonstrations in various cities across the country, including Kathmandu, which he said pose a threat to the republic.
He also urged the government and political parties to make corrections in their working style, focusing on eliminating mismanagement, controlling price hikes, and promoting good governance.
Gomadevi Timilsina raised the issue of the Udayapur Cement Industry, which has been without a head for a long time, and the employees who have remained unpaid for several months.
Tul Prasad Bishwakarma informed the House about the growing cases of discrimination against Dalits and demanded justice for the survivors.
Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) urged the government to take further measures to empower women, while Rajendra Laxmi Gaire and Narayan Datta Mishra called on the government to address the demands of agitating community school teachers. Mishra also sought a broader scope regarding women’s rights and reservations for them.
Yubaraj Sharma advised political parties to focus on promoting good governance and addressing the aspirations of the people, while Suresh Ale Magar emphasized the need for more movements for women’s liberation.
Mohammed Khalid highlighted an incident in which a Buddha Air flight from Janakpur landed in Kathmandu without one of its wheels. He said this raised serious concerns over air safety in the country. “The case could harm the tourism industry,” he stated, urging commitments from concerned stakeholders to ensure such an incident does not happen again.
