Farmers of Madhes province to receive Rs 2 billion grants
Mahottari, Feb 25: Farmers involved in animal husbandry in Madhes Province are set to receive grants.
According to the Bardibas-based Economic Corridor Project Office of the Madhes Province Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the process to provide Rs 2 billion in grants to 179 farmer groups in Madhes Province has reached its final phase.
The grants aim to encourage farmers in agriculture and production-oriented activities, said Office Chief Surendra Yadav. The program is being operated with financial support from the World Bank.
The office has selected farmer groups in eight districts of Madhes Province, where more than 5,000 farmers are associated with the groups, shared Information Officer Santosh Prakash. The farmer groups will receive grants based on the number of farmers and their proposals.
Rautahat District will receive the highest amount of grants (Rs 550 million), followed by Saptari with Rs 310 million, Mahottari with Rs 260 million, Dhanusha with Rs 230 million, Sarlahi with Rs 160 million, and Bara with Rs 140 million.
Similarly, Parsa District will receive the lowest grant amount of Rs 70 million. There is a provision requiring the concerned farmer group to invest 55 percent of the total investment, while the office will provide 45 percent.
The program operates at 84 local levels connected with the east-west highway and postal highway in the province. The main objective of the project is to develop rural enterprises by creating a supportive environment for promoting market relations between small producers and farmers involved in the agricultural value chain.
