Energy Minister Khadka meets his Indian counterpart

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka held a meeting with his Indian counterpart, Minister of Power of India, Manohar Lal Khattar, in Delhi, India on Wednesday.

Minister Khadka is in New Delhi to attend ‘India Energy Week-2025’. During the meeting, they discussed the various aspects of energy development between Nepal and India.

On the occasion, he thanked the Indian government for its support to export electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh via the Indian transmission line.

The Energy Minister urged the Power Ministry of India to approve 24-hour power availability as electricity from the Indian Power Exchange could not be available from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm during the winter season. He drew attention to the approval to export power of the Tamakoshi hydropower project going to be constructed by Nepal on its own.

Similarly, Power Minister Khattar said there is always support and cooperation from India in the development of Nepal’s energy sector. He shared that energy development between the two countries would be forwarded through mutual discussion and collaboration.

The Indian Minister urged the Energy Minister for necessary facilitate the projects constructed by Indian companies in Nepal.

Present in the meeting were the Secretary of the Energy Ministry, Suresh Acharya, senior energy expert Prabal Adhikari, Joint Secretary Sandip Kumar Dev, and the Economic Advisor of the Minister, Amit Shrestha. Indian Power Ministry’s Secretary Pankaj Agrawal and Chairperson of NHPC, electricity organization of India, RK Chaudhary were also present on the occasion.
