Communications Minister vows to establish IT Park this year

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has committed to establishing an IT Park in Kathmandu by this year, adding that IT infrastructures were needed to materialize the goals of the Digital Nepal Framework.

Inaugurating the 30th CAN Infotech-2025 in Kathmandu organized by the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) on Thursday, the government spokesperson said that sufficient IT infrastructures should be prepared for implementing the Digital Nepal Framework.

‘IT infrastructures should be created to meet the goal of the Digital Nepal Framework. We will establish an IT Park in Kathmandu this year at any cost,’ he promised.

Minister Gurung stated that the lack of an IT Park was an indication of lagging in the technical field and shared that he was proactive in building IT-related infrastructure, IT Policy, AI Policy and other physical and legal instruments.

Likewise, the Communications and Information Technology Minister said that 4G service would be expanded in all 753 local levels and 5G service would be started in the Kathmandu Valley within this year. Stating that Nepal was behind at the SAARC level in formulating its AI Policy, Gurung viewed that Nepal would lag if maximum use of IT was not prioritized.

During the event, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s message of best wishes was presented through video. In his message, PM Oli expressed confidence that the new ordinance unveiled by the government has created a conducive environment to run IT industries even in foreign countries and that has created new hopes for creating youth employment.

Likewise, PM Oli stated that Digital Framework Nepal could be made meaningful through partnerships between the government and private sector.
