24 individuals held for involvement in online betting

 

Kathmandu, Feb 2: Nepal Police apprehended 24 individuals for allegedly engaging in illegal gambling of more than Rs 3.4 billion through online betting applications.

 

Those arrestees include 14 Nepali nationals and 10 Indians, Information Officer of Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and Superintendent of Police (SP) Kaji Kumar Acharya said. According to SP Acharya, the wrongdoers were found to have arranged offline betting with Indian betting agents by the use of at least eight betting sites.

 

The money from the betting was being deposited in different banks in India and was withdrawn, SP Acharya stated. The gamblers carried out their crime by renting two houses at Sanepa in Lalitpur, and they were arrested on Saturday and were made public on Sunday.

 

Police also recovered 57 sets of mobile phones, 13 laptops, 34 ATM cards, 88 phone SIM cards, and other documents. —RSS
