RSP calls to withdraw Social Networking Site Regulation Bill
Kathmandu, Jan 30: The opposition Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has asked the government to withdraw the bill related to the operation, use, and regulation of social networking sites, 2081, which has been registered in the National Assembly by the government.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the RSP has urged the government to immediately recall the bill while suggesting bringing it by incorporating the opinions received from the public discussions. “We urge the government to immediately withdraw the bill and rewrite it as per the constitutional norms and values by holding consultations with the direct and indirect stakeholders,” read the statement.
Acting General Secretary of RSP Kabindra Burlakoti has stated that serious attention of RSP was drawn to the bill since it tramples the fundamental rights and citizens’ freedoms that are guaranteed by the constitution. The bill registered in the Upper House curtails the freedom of speech and expression, makes the citizens’ critical expressions punishable, and controls civilian rights, thus having undemocratic motives, the RSP stated. —RSS
