On Air Station:

Efforts on to curb illegal extraction of riverbed materials

Janakpurdham: The District Police Office has beefed up its efforts to curb the illegal extraction of riverbed materials- sand and pebbles from the Kamala River.

The police have seized the tractors and other tools used to dig the riverbed.

Similarly, they obstructed the alternative routes used by smugglers to transport river products. According to the District Police Office, the illegal extraction has declined with the active presence of security personnel.

Police Inspector Jata Shankar Yadav from the Area Police Office at Dhalkebar informed that the police had seized the tractors and other tools and sent them to the concerned offices for further action.

The police launched such initiatives because the illegal extraction did not cease even after the arrest of those involved in it. The alternative routes for transport are impaired and obstructed to discontinue the illegal works. The mayor of Ganeshman Charnath municipality, Jit Narayan Yadav, said they had mobilized police persons to control the growing smuggling of riverbed materials, especially from the Kamala River.

Similarly, the local-level crusher industries that were operating without registration and renewal were terminated. The locals, however, said the resources in the Jalad, Aurahi, Badahari, Ratu, and Kamala Rivers were being exploited heavily, and it was difficult for the local level and police to control them.

So, the District Administration Office has to interfere with it, they argued. The crusher industries were smuggling sand and pebbles in the night evading the administration’s oversight.
