Nepal launches Sagarmatha Sambad to address climate change
January 21, Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today formally launched the Sagarmatha Samabad (Mt. Everest Dialogue), a global platform aimed at addressing the pressing issues of climate change, particularly its impact on the Himalayas and human lives.
The dialogue is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18.
Coinciding with the International Year of Glacier Conservation, 2025, the launch event was organized jointly by the Ministry of Forests and Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office, Singhadurbar.
In his address, Prime Minister Oli underscored Nepal’s rationale for initiating such a global dialogue. Nepal has been a vocal advocate for climate justice on the international stage. The government has committed to organizing a similar global dialogue every two years.
The inaugural event saw the participation of Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Secretaries, high-ranking officials, and heads and representatives of diplomatic missions based in Nepal.
