On Air Station:

Agro ambulance service in the offing at local level

Balewa (Baglung): Jaimini Municipality is preparing to operate an agriculture ambulance service to bring the agro-products of farmers to the market. In this connection, preparation has been put in place to purchase ambulances in partnership between the government and the municipality.

Deputy Mayor Harihar Sharma shared that the process of procuring an ‘agriculture ambulance’ is in the final stage. The ambulance is being procured with a grant assistance of Rs 2.5 million from the federal Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and Rs 2.5 million from the Municipality.

The municipality has come up with the concept of the agricultural ambulance to expand the local market and ease the farmers to transport agricultural produce to a greater market.

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari said the government has partnered with the municipality to advance the latter’s plan. He said that a plan would be made to operate ‘Agriculture Ambulance’ in partnership with interested local governments across the country for the benefit of the farmers.

According to Sharma, the municipality aims to transport vegetables, ginger, turmeric, fruits, indigenous crops, fish, honey, meat, curd and chhurpi produced at the local level to the market through ambulances.

‘Agriculture ambulances carry the crops produced by the farmers associated with the group or farm to the market,’ Sharma said, adding, ‘Ambulances will be mobilized across the municipality to benefit the farmers by preparing the operating procedure.’
